Animal Care is research into veterinary continuity: how much clinical meaning is lost when each visit becomes an isolated record, and how software could keep an animal's history connected and useful.
WHY IT EXISTS
Veterinary care depends on more than what happens inside the clinic. Changes in behavior, appetite, mobility, medication response, owner observations at home, previous diagnostics, hospitalization details, and follow-up can all become relevant later.
WHAT IT EXPLORES
The workflow under study: owner observations → consultation → clinical notes → hospitalization and follow-up → contextual retrieval. Home observations stay distinct from professional clinical notes, while relevant relationships remain discoverable. The project has also considered a retrieval-augmented knowledge layer — retrieve relevant veterinary material first, then generate grounded responses — across domains such as procedures, dog and cat care, genetics, laboratory information, and owner education.
INTEROPERABILITY RESEARCH
The project has examined HL7/FHIR, C-CDA, LOINC, and the SNOMED CT Veterinary Extension to understand what human-health interoperability can — and cannot — offer veterinary software. These are studied as references; they are not implemented integrations.
CURRENT STATE
Research and system design, with an early prototype interface. Animal Care does not provide diagnosis or treatment, and it is not a replacement for veterinary judgment.
